Durham Basement Fire and Smoke Damage
The stored chemicals spewed out a black sooty smoke in this Durham basement. Luckily, it was quickly extinguished, preventing any structural damage. SERVPRO has experienced FST fire and smoke damage technicians that can deal with the remaining issues. Odors must be contained to the lower level of the home by using a rapid thermal fogging to neutralize the noxious compounds. The blackened block walls, floor joists, and hardwood subfloor can be "magically" cleaned as shown in the After Photo. The methodology is called "dry ice blasting." These carbon dioxide pellets, fed through a hopper, blast against the surfaces through the use of controlled air pressure. The chafing removes the residue from the hard surfaces, and then the pellets sublimate (go from a solid to a gaseous state) leaving no wet residue in the basement. Virtually no cleanup and no dampness. SERVPRO has the equipment and the technicians to mitigate smoke and fire damage "Like it never even happened."
