SERVPRO works hard to help you take your mind off of your Durham home water damage.

SERVPRO works hard to help you take care of your Durham home water damage.

Durham residents have little concern over flooding for the most part. While a thunderstorm can fill the streets occasionally, homeowners know that their major water intrusion issues come from faulty appliances or plumbing issues like a rusted out elbow joint under a sink.

Restoring a home in Durham from water damage takes special training and an extensive equipment inventory. SERVPRO response teams train to all industry standards when it comes to removing standing water, drying the structure, and lowering the inside humidity level to a normal, comfortable level.

After stopping the source of the water, team technicians move in with water extractors to draw water off surfaces, out of carpets, and from between floorboards. They can adjust the vacuum speed and introduce heat at the same time with these wands and other devices to quickly remove water and dry surfaces without accidentally damaging them further.

If the water intrusion went unnoticed for an extended amount of time, then the water level can be much higher and require a larger pump for removal. Regardless of the amount pumped out, and since this is treated water, technicians pump it directly into the nearest drain.

Next, SERVPRO team members install fans at key points to draw damp air out of the home. They reduce the inside moisture level, increasing the natural evaporation rate, and drying the interior without secondary damage to building materials like drywall.

For items that absorbed so much water, they also use air movers. These machines generate warm, dry air that technicians can adjust to flow across surfaces to force moisture into the air where the fans pull it outside the home. They can also use these machines, attached to a hose, to dry the spaces under floors and behind walls.

Finally, technicians use commercial grade dehumidifiers to draw out of the air. Depending on its size and the air moisture content, each one can remove 25 gallons every 24 hours. This both lowers the humidity level and augments the efforts of the air movers and fans.

Restoring a home is not an easy or quick process. At SERVPRO of North Durham, we take every step necessary to return a dry, safe home to its owners and residents here and in surrounding communities like Gorman, Rougemont, Bahama.
