Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

SERVPRO, Mt Sinai Apartment Community, and Hurricane Matthew

During Hurricane Matthew, the Mt Sinai Apartment Community, close to Fayetteville State University of North Carolina, was hit and overwhelmed. The area was so overcome by the standing water that many vehicles were almost submerged completely. The complex was entirely inhospitable to its former residents.

Sixteen months after the storm, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson surveyed the 104 apartment complex and estimated the damages. In total, there was "3 feet of flood water [and] 1.4 million in damages." The flood damage was so devastating, and the complex stood vacant for more than a year. Carson reported that "we need to kind of scrap all of these things that have been put in place before and start all over again."

Enter SERVPRO of North Durham. SERVPRO arrived at the scene of the severe flood damage and got to work immediately. They gutted the damaged sections of the apartments, cutting out large sections of drywall and removing impacted electrical from inside the walls. Afterward, SERVPRO cleaned the inside of the space, removing dirt and debris, before beginning the remediation process.

The SERVPRO team completed the reconstruction of the complex, including replacing drywall and electrical. Additionally, they also installed plumbing, doorways, flooring, and fixtures. After a final post-construction cleanup, SERVPRO's remediation brought the apartment complex into a renewed state, making it livable once more after more than a year of vacancy.

The on-site property manager, Shiela, had nothing but glowing praise for the hard work that SERVPRO put into the remediation and reconstruction of the complex. "The apartments look excellent and we're satisfied with the work performed. I would recommend SERVPRO." SERVPRO's motto is to leave a site looking "Like it never even happened" and, in the case of this flood damage, SERVPRO went above and beyond expectations.
